Children are not simply little adults. Their brain and bodies change extremely rapidly, mentally, emotionally and physically, as they grow their brain, and grow into their bodies.
Kids have been a focus of my practice since day one. I myself benefited from chiropractic care as a child and growing teenager, so much so that I became a chiropractor.
It made sense to me that having my nervous system checked as I journeyed through life, would help to keep my brain-body communicating as best it could, and heal itself given the right conditions.
Adjusting kids is more about wiring the brain, than pain and injury correction – although that does happen too!
More than ever, kids are experiencing higher rates of anxiety, a state of fear that suppresses the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for learning, critical thinking, planning, logic, judgement and decision making. Behavioural issues are more prevalent also – too often, due to the brain being overstimulated and not able to self-regulate.
10 reasons parents take their children to see a Chiropractor:
- To encourage good neural plasticity (brain and nerve development)
- To support their child’s overall immune health and wellbeing
- To help strengthen their child’s immunity and reduce the incidence of colds, ear-aches and general illness.
- To assist with breast feeding issues, colic, digestive and Irritable Baby Syndrome.
- To help with sinus, asthma, breathing difficulties and allergies.
- To encourage good spinal posture.
- To help improve their child’s ability to concentrate… parents will really appreciate this!!
- To assist with behavioral disorders.
- To help alleviate digestive problems and bowel functions.
- To assist with bed-wetting and sleep issues.
This is where chiropractic helps kids kicks goals in all areas of life – spinal health check-ups should be included in every child’s healthcare regime, just like regular dental checks, only the brain and spine are way more important in my humble opinion, since they are the gatekeepers of every function in your child’s body.
