FOODS FOR LIFE
It may or may not surprise you to learn that the type and quality of food, drink and substances we desire to consume are influenced by the feelings and emotions we have contained within our soul. I am sure we can all admit to having emotionally eaten at one time or another in our lives – craving for chocolate, salty snacks, alcohol, coffee or that little hit of sweetness after dinner. Eating or drinking to avoid what we are feeling.
Unfortunately though, our emotions drive our food choices even further than we may realise, and they are making us incredibly unwell, even contributing to our early death.
Dr Michael Greger has published a book called How Not To Die: Foods scientifically proven to prevent and reverse disease which is based solely on the latest scientific research. He has dedicated his life to nutrition and healthcare, and to providing to the general public free access to all the latest findings, particularly as they relate to the top fifteen chronic diseases killing millions across the globe every year. I highly recommend reading this book, or subscribing to nutritionfacts.org and podcast, all funded entirely by donations from the general public.
In a nutshell, his research shows without doubt that the only diet humans are designed to consume is a whole food, plant-based diet, primarily fruit and nuts. The least amount of processing the better. For example, eat the olive, not olive oil. Eat the whole grain, rather than grind it into flour. The more we change a food from its original source, or structure, the less beneficial it becomes, and the more work our body has to undergo to process it or remove it as waste.
Every plant contains fibre, essential for creating and feeding the diversity in our microbiome, which forms the largest part of our immune system.
Every plant contains vital vitamins, and minerals drawn up from the soil in which they have grown. Every single plant contains protein, and amino acids, the building blocks your body uses to create all the peptides, hormones, neurotransmitters, muscle and structural materials your body needs to thrive.
Any consumption of animal products (meat, seafood, dairy, eggs) causes inflammation and immediate damage in the human body. Just imagine filling up your car three times a day, seven days a week, year after year, with the wrong fuel type – the engine simply will not run efficiently, if at all. Even using cheaper, low quality fuel leads to engine problems down the track that will cost in more ways than one.
Thomas A. Edison in 1908 said:
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
This quote is what inspired me to become a Chiropractor. In chiropractic one of the primary principles is that the human body has the ability to heal itself given the right conditions. Part of those “right conditions” is, nourishing the body with the food and drink that best supports the function of the human frame – not consuming foods that have been scientifically proven to damage the body with every single bite.
The Doctrine of Signatures (3) is a concept that has been around for centuries; that a plant resembles the condition or part of the body it can heal. I refer to it as God’s Farmacy.

Healing is in your hands, actually it is on your fork!

The Food Pyramid is vastly out dated.
The Power Plate is now the recommended food guide to battle what is now the western worlds number one killer – The Standard Australian Diet.

Plant-Based Remedies
Here is a collection of some of our favourite and most used medicinal remedies made from the healing qualities of various plants, foods, herbs and spices. Many pharmaceutical drugs on the market are derived from extracting the healing properties of various plants, altering their chemical structure or making a synthetic copy that can be patented for Big Pharma dollars.
We love that fact that God created many medicinal plants and foods, most of which we can grow in our own backyards!
Night-shades (Eggplant, Red Capsicum, Tomato, Potato, Zucchini) – Nicotine for virus, venom, bites/stings, poisons, toxins.
Turmeric (Curcumin) & Ginger + Black pepper or Cayenne Pepper – out match OTC anti-inflammatories.
Cinnamon – for high blood pressure and controlling blood sugar, blood clots, vein repair.
Cayenne Pepper – for blood clotting/thinning, vascular repair
Comfrey – “bone knit” for fractures and wounds
Calendula & Arnica – for inflammation, bruising, wound healing.
Rosehips – highest source of vitamin C, for joint inflammation, arthritis.
Willow bark – for pain relief, Aspirin is made from this plant.
Golden Seal – for respiratory, sinus and gut infections of yeast or fungus. Many respiratory issues are fungal, not bacterial.
Pistachios – for melatonin (6/day)
Brazilian nuts – for selenium (3-5/day)
